more diamonds!

Hey!
Alright so I'm pretty sure that the diamond I purchased for Amy's engagement ring won't be the last diamond I ever buy! And after the experience I had I see that it's very important to know your stuff about diamonds. You have to go in there knowing exactly what your looking for.

There are so many little details when it comes to diamonds, I read a lot about the 4 C's and how important they are. GIA was the first institute to create the 4 C's that are used by everyone now. Carat, Color, Clarity, and Cut, they are all very important. GIA talks about how these 4 characteristics all contribute to a beautiful diamond. They are the key factors to consider when judging a diamond.

Its February!

So far the year is flying by. This past weekend was a special one for me, and for Amy of course. I proposed and she said yes! She was stunned by the ring. It looks so amazing on her.

Luckily I was able to get the GIA grading report that came with the diamond I purchased before I got the ring mounted. I'm one of the first ones of my buddies to get engaged. And with all the research I've done and all the discussions I've had with them, I know that they will all be coming to me for advice when it comes time for them to shop for engagement rings. I was curious to see what other guys knew about diamonds and engagement rings and I found this video.

Hey everyone,

Well the day is fast approaching. I cannot wait to give Amy the ring. I already have the whole day planned, it'll be something simple and memorable.

Now I know that I'm supposed to wait to go with her to pick out the wedding bands but I just had to go look to have a better idea of what we should get. So like I mentioned before I definitely want to get platinum wedding bands. I found out the platinum can be re-sized, that's great! We all know that our finger sizes changes when our bodies change. So that's a great little fact to know. Platinum is not the only enduring material out there, there's also tungsten, it resembles platinum in the fact that its a very strong material, which is great for people who are active, the only downside is that it can't be re-sized.

Platinum rings are definitely a great investment.

So this whole time I've been so focused on the setting of the ring and how important Platinum is that I seem to have totally neglected the importance of the diamond! After all it is a diamond engagement ring. So since I did purchase the ring setting and the diamond separately I wanted to make sure that the diamond I was getting was the real thing. When I bought the diamond the jeweler insured me that it was a certified diamond. Well now I want to add it to my homeowners insurance just in case anything ever happens to the ring, the insurance company said I had to have a diamond certificate.

So I went back to the place where I got the diamond and asked to have the certificate. Before I did that being the person that I am, I did my research online first. I came across GIA, the Gemological Institute of America. They're the ones that started "the 4 C's" I came across a lot of discussions about the 4 C's when I was looking for other peoples opinions on what type of engagement ring I should get. On their website I saw that they are the ones that have a truly unbiased opinion on diamonds, they judge diamonds on every level to insure that it is the real thing. I came across this video too, its pretty interesting.

So I've got the ring all ready to go.

Here are some other fun facts about Platinum, like I mentioned before it's naturally white, what I found out is that over the years it begins to develop its own luster so it ends up having like a satin finish which looks amazing. It'll be awesome to see that the ring will look even more beautiful 50 years from now and we'll be able to reflect on the years we've had together.

Since platinum is guaranteed to last a life time, I think the ring will also make a great heirloom. Its a simple and classic setting that will never go out of style so we will be able to pass it down to our children and start our own family tradition.

Hey,

Its almost time. I've been really anxious especially now that I have the ring. I just can't wait to see it on her hand. A friend of mine reminded me that I should probably look at weddings bands too. That's a detail I completely forgot about since I was so excited about the engagement ring. I know that the engagement ring and the wedding band have to much so I'll definitely be choosing Platinum for the wedding bands too. Luckily the engagement ring I purchased has its matching wedding bands available as well.
I'm not much of a jewelry guy but a wedding band is something I will be more than happy to wear especially since it will be platinum, so I won't have to be worried about messing it up since its such a durable material.

Here's the website where I found the engagement ring.

Happy 2009 everyone!

So the day is getting closer. I'm going to propose to Amy at the end of the month. I got the ring all ready to go. I bought it a few days ago. It looks so amazing, I know she's going to love it.

I thought I would share something else I found while doing my research. This chart is what definitely did it for me when it came to choosing the metal for my girlfriends engagement ring.

So now that I've got the ring, I've got to start preparing all the little details for the day that I plan on proposing.
